Reminder Of Me

REMINDER OF ME.jpg

We may look different; we may come from other worlds and have different destinies. This may be true, but I have to admit that there is something about you that feels ever so familiar.

I don’t know if it is that curious look in your eyes that I also view the world through? Especially when my young gaze fell on an older male, questioning if he was a friend or foe.

I don’t know if it is because you are simply sitting on a bike, out exploring your world, learning the lessons you need through the actions you take.

I don’t know why the image of a young boy alone in the world feels so familiar, but then again, maybe I do.

A lot of my early and informative years were spent in this exact fashion. Alone, seemingly wandering from experience to experience. Lots of time to discover, lots of time to think.

They were great years, which I look back on fondly, and while most people had two parents, a mother and a father, I only had one, which to tell you the truth, I preferred. It seemed a lot easier to follow one set of rules, to live up to one expectation, rather than two.

I imagine just like you, I never saw myself as going without; after all, how much does a young boy need. Food, shelter, love, and a bike. I felt like I had it all, and it wasn’t until much later in life I began to believe I didn’t.

I wish I never brought into the stories and needs of the wanting world, but I guess it would always happen as I navigated high school and beyond. I wish I understood how to stay centred, focused on my desires. I think I may have arrived here a lot sooner.

So as you ride, my friend, know that the thoughts racing through your mind may be the thoughts of another. Know that who you are, is more than enough and always will be, and know that everything you desire is within reach; just be careful what you desire, make sure it is for you.

Thank you for this moment; your simple gaze allowed me to take a wander down memory lane—a beautiful place, enhanced by the soft setting sun of what really was.
