I Remember
I remember what no one seems to talk about anymore.
I remember a childhood spent in our traditional home, surrounded by the pristine rainforests of Kalimantan. I remember the laughter, the love, the learning as traditions were passed through actions from one generation to the next.
I remember that we had all we needed and wanted for very little. I remember a simple life full of pleasure, where I didn't need help or handouts, where I didn't need to re-invent my existence because of other's selfish actions, where I was free to live exactly as I chose to.
But now we are here, and my fading memory of the past is all I have to hold onto. I thank you all for your concern, help, kindness. I wish I didn't need it, as I still remember when your actions, needs, and desires didn't affect and destroy my community.
I remember, but will you?
