The System
Don’t just hate the system that creates the injustices you so passionately dislike. Question your part in it.
If we want to change in the world, in this life, then it is not enough for us to state what we don’t like or disagree with or what offends us and our seemingly so ever delicate moral compass.
No, we have to take action. We have to stand up for what we desire; what we believe in. We have to look deeply into our reality, find our faults and deal with them. We have to be honest about our pasts, our part that they play in the system, a system we don’t like, yet a system we use to our advantage.
It seems absurd to desire privacy, yet at the same time, enjoy the tracking and data it produces. It seems like a living lie to voice concerns about the environment, only to turn a blind eye to the way products are produced when desired. It seems beyond belief to express love for all living beings, only to sit down and devour them at the dinner table, quoting the disproven protein myth.
The first step to change may be the toughest. Admitting that you are part of the system, that you say passionately and aloud you dislike. I know I can not change a system single-handedly, but I also know that I am responsible for what I do; and, therefore, can make a lasting change.
If the actions I take are not equal or greater than what I preach, then I am just another human paying lip service to issues that will affect all of our futures. If I am not prepared to change my part of the system, how can I possibly expect the system to ever change?
I need to do more than be seen, heard, and felt.
I need to take action that ensures my every decision is helping to build a system that I will be proud to leave behind for the next generation to improve upon, as opposed to a mess beyond repair.
